A huge thank you to all paid subscribers and many thanks to Andrew who bought me a coffee recently. Taming the Trunk is 100% reader supported, no ads or commission links and your support is really appreciated.
Back in January Evernote got a new template system which is a lot more flexible than the old one and they finally gave us the chance to edit our templates whenever we want.
When the new system launched, we also learnt that the old legacy templates and any custom templates you created would be removed on 30th June 2025... we're almost there.
If you checked the "Do not show this message again" box then you won't have had a reminder so a quick public service announcement:
"Make sure you create notes from all the templates in the My Templates section. They will go away!"
Evernote Legacy Templates
This bring us to the old legacy templates that have been created by Evernote and other collaborators over the last 15 or so years. I counted around 80 of them and they are all available in the template gallery that is going away on June 30th.
Some of these templates have been updated and moved to the new template gallery but others will be removed, never to be seen again!
A few weeks ago, I poured a glass of wine and started creating new notes from all the templates in the legacy template gallery for safe keeping.

I wish Substack supported tables!
What I've done is export all the legacy templates as a single Evernote ENEX file and you can download them and import them into your Evernote.
I hope you find them useful.
And finally…
Sorry for mentioning it again. Don’t forget to make a copy of all your custom templates under My Templates
as they will be gone after 30th June 2025.
Have you been creating more templates since the new system started? Let me know in the comments.
Have a great weekend
All the best
Jon
Thanks for warning us that the legacy templates are going away.
I was able to download Evernote version 10.142.1 for Mac on Monday. According to the release notes, it is still available.
Thanks, Jon. I have downloaded all your templates and sent them to my EN .Inbox, opened one, and it seems all are there! I haven't used Templates so far, so I appreciate that you have saved me a lot of work. Perhaps templates are in my future. So far, my EN is mostly a replacement for physical filing cabinets, but I foresee a lot of planning for the future!
