Newsletter housekeeping: The latest version for PC & Mac is 10.89.2 and you can grab it from the Evernote website. Android and iPhone versions should be 10.88.0.
Evernote calendar is getting a bit of an update with week and month views arriving very soon. I've been using the new views for a while and it’s ticked off another feature I've been waiting for and gets Evernote closer to becoming a cracking productivity hub.
A quick recap. Evernote has a calendar area and you can connect your Google and Outlook calendars and view all your events in one place.
There's also a standalone Evernote calendar for folks who don't use Google or Outlook.
We've been able to view events on a day-by-day basis for a while but arriving soon is a proper week and month view.
This is what week view looks like.
Click on the calendar link in the sidebar and you'll see a new drop-down box at the top right-hand corner for Week and Month views.
In the week view you can see tasks at the top and then all your events for the whole week.
If you add a time to your task then the week view slots puts it in at the correct time of the day like this.
Here's the month view.
You can again see tasks and events in one place with a "+3 more" if you have plenty to do that day. Just click on this text and you go to the day view.
On the month view tasks with times appear like an event.
I'm finding the week view very useful.
The next step for me is the having ability to create events in all our calendars, move them around and share them with folk so I can stop heading to Google.
I'm hoping this arrives in the next few weeks or months as at that point I'll be able to just use Evernote alone for calendar, tasks and notes.
I've been wanting this forever. I remember writing an article on an old long-deleted blog around 2010ish saying if someone managed to build a fully functioning note, task and calendar app they would own the market! I still believe this as a lot of the options out there right now are not that powerful.
Calendar and task updates have proved to be very popular with existing Evernote users and I know of a number of folk signing up as new users to experience all of this productivity goodness.
One of my articles from a few weeks ago explains how I’m using tasks right now in my workflow. I’m now building in much more calendar.
Are you using tasks and calendar? Happy with the new views? What would you like to see in the future?
Let me know in the comments.
Have a great weekend,
All the best,
Jon
Thanks for this clear and informative overview of the latest Calendar update. This looks really ueeful. Just waiting for it to appear on my PC! 😁😁
Thanks for this. Just to clarify - we can create events in Evernote, but they don't yet show up on our Google Calendars? There isn't that two-way integration yet?
