Do you record voice notes or audio using Evernote?
If the answer is yes, you’ll be happy as a new audio recorder has been released with a couple of cool new features.
Make sure you're using at least version 10.153.1 on PC or Mac. This update is just for the desktop and web apps.
If you didn't already know you can record audio in the Evernote app, either voice notes or just sit there with your guitar. I know a few folk who record song ideas into a note so they don't forget them.
The easiest way to start a recording is to use the slash (/) menu and just start typing audio.
Once you start recording, a bar appears at the top of the note showing you the recording is happening.
The first new feature is a pause button.
Yup. We can now pause the recording so if your phone rings or the dog wants something just hit pause and then restart later.
The recorder also has a new modern style with rounded borders and slight colour changes.
The second new feature is very cool.
We can now continue recording while moving to other notes in Evernote.
If you kick off a recording and then move to another note the recorder appears at the bottom of the sidebar.
This will be very useful as you can move from note to note to note and the recording continues.
If you hit stop from the recorder in the sidebar a notification appears with a link to the note that contains the recording.
Another cool feature, you can drag the recorder anywhere around the screen when you're away from the note that its recording in.
In the screen shot below I've moved it to the further up the page on my home screen.
You can drag it pretty much anywhere you want.
Here it is on the tasks page.
I like how flexible it is. If the recorder gets in the way, then just move it.
Don't forget that after you've recorded what you want you can use the transcribe button to turn the audio into text.
One thing I hope for in the future is the ability to play audio and have it carry on playing when you move around the notes. Right now, it’s just for recording.
Do you record much in Evernote? What do you record? Let me know in the comments.
Some Evernote AI gossip
A little bit of gossip on the AI front from Federico who's the product lead at Evernote.
Someone on the Evernote Positive subreddit asked what the plans for AI were and if they'll be a way to chat with our notes.
Here's the answer.
I've seen some stuff that I can't talk about and it’s very exciting and not too far away but generally speaking I would find it quite useful to be able to interact with my notes.
I use ChatGPT quite a lot for research and doing the same using my own notes would be a huge benefit.
Would you want to chat with your notes? What would you ask? What worries you about Evernote and AI?
Leave me a comment.
Have a great weekend
All the best
