A huge thank you to Dave who became a paid subscriber over the Christmas break and many thanks also to those who bought me a coffee. Taming the Trunk is 100% reader supported, no ads or commission links and your support is really appreciated.
It's great to see Evernote investing in more features that will give people much more control over how they manipulate their data. In the age of AI and where context is king, Evernote should be able to take advantage of that by giving their users better tools to leverage that context in their tool of choice. But, I think there still seems to be some work to do.
I was such a bullish proponent of Evernote for a long time. About 2 years ago I slowly switched to Notion for all of these reasons. And now with vibe coding, the Notion API has become my best friend.
I think Evernote has all the pieces and for those who have been writing in Evernote for years, that's a treasure trove of context that can be leveraged with AI in a massive way. They just need to sprint forward.
Yup. What would you like to see in a perfect world ? They are discussing integrations and connectors now so would be interesting to get feedback to send to them. I’d like a fresh updated API and MCP server type thing so it’s easy to plug in other apps. I’d also like to be able to plug other apps into Evernote so I’m not just working with my notes in the app I’m looking at data in lots of places.
All of the above. But I'm very happy with Notion so I don't know if I'm the right guy to be giving feedback at this stage.
I think the key unlock for me when switching to Notion is that every piece of content in their system is an object that can be filtered, manipulated and viewed at from different angles. For anyone with systems level thinking or an object oriented approach to solving problems, that opened up a world of possibilities which vibe coding has just super charged. They should do the same.

100%. I’d love to see the API improved and updated and maybe even some built in app connectors with the new AI Assistant.
