I love this feature but it does not seem to be available offline. I am constantly typing notes into Evernote when i am in a remote area and do not have internet connection.
It only works online. It uses Evernote's own AI to do the transcription so needs some sort of connection. Not sure how easy it would be to get the AI running locally, probably need a meaty device!
Yes, I've started using the Dictation feature and am finding it useful. Just takes a bit of breaking old habits - less typing, etc. I do find myself pausing too often so line breaks slip in. But then I can use the AI editing tools to tidy things up! Pity there's not a button to initiate the Dictation feature, that would speed things up further rather than having to type "/dict" 🤣
I raised the possibility of a one-tap button for dictation with Evernote support. They came back to me and advised that using the blue plus button on the editing toolbar in both web and desktop, you can easily get to the dictation feature and use it from there.
This seems to be a very workable solution. It might not be a one-touch, but it's pretty quick. It's slightly less awkward than typing "/dict"...
And this reminded me that you can set the blue plus button features as favourites so you don't have to hunt for them in the list of options.
Yes, always forget to do that. The favourite star is useful, brings it to the top. Still hope they add another little icon for dictate to make it one click.
How would you want to differentiate between a list and normal text? I have an idea that the dictation AI would notice if you said something like Start Checklist/End Checklist.
One useful side-feature would be a widget/shortcut on mobile, or something for Apple Watch. For me, fast dictation/note-taking should mean not having to open the app.
Evernote is really becoming the Everything app. Like you mentioned before, a single Evernote subscription replaces many other services in addition to managing notes, such as meeting transcription, task management, file/doc collaboration and now may be a replacement for desktop dictation for many people. No need to pay for Granola, Wispr Flow, and AI Chatbots too.
Yeah. Over the last couple of years I’ve cancelled Todoist and Otter. I’d like to cancel Descript as it’s $20 a month but EN would need video editing for that lol. Don’t think that will happen.

Agree with you on the checklists, bullet lists, etc. That's the first thing that occurred to me as I was testing this out.
