Hello. You’re about to get a bit more productive.
The latest version of Evernote is out in the wild. On my PC it’s reading as version 10.50.9 and if you don’t want to wait for the automatic update process to roll out you can download it from the Evernote download page.
This update is a little bundle of joy so lets go through what they’ve done.
Add links to other notes quickly!
This is huge. A really important change that will make a lot of folk much more productive.
Before, if you wanted to link to another note you had to search for the note, grab a link to it via the menu or right-click menu and then go back to the previous note and paste the link in. Bit of a job if you’re linking many notes.
Let me introduce Ctrl + Alt + K on Windows or Cmd + Opt + K on Mac’s.
Hit the shortcut and a box pops up where you can search for the note.
Click the note then the Insert button and this is what you get.
More on the fancy new link previews in a minute.
I link to various notes in my client project notes and meeting notes plus I also create a table of contents note for bigger projects.
This new feature will save me time. Thank you Evernote!
Chose how to preview content in your notes
This is another big improvement.
You know when you upload an image or PDF and it appears really big as a preview and you then have to click to make it smaller? You can now set a default on how you want the previews to look.
Head over to Settings —> Preferences —> Notes in the desktop apps.
These settings control the default view of content in a note but you can still make changes to the previews just like before.
The content you can control are Evernote Links (see the screen grab above), Images, PDFs, Google Drive links and YouTube links.
The choices of preview are:
Evernote Links - Text, Title or Preview (see screen grab above).
Images - Title or Preview.
PDFs - Title, Single Page or All Pages.
Google Drive - Text or Title.
YouTube - Text, Title, Small or Large Preview or Full Width Preview.
These new options will make you more productive and save clicks.
I want to view most of my images as Title Only and now I can set it as a default which will save me time.
Select up to 100 notes at a time
I dont do a lot of bulk operations in Evernote myself but I know a lot of folk who do and this will please them.
The maximum limit for selecting notes was 50, it’s now been upped to 100.
This means you can now move, delete or perform other actions on many more notes at the same time.
Almost silent updates. No more pop up update box
HEY, THERE’S A NEW UPDATE… LIKE NOW… UPDATE!
I didn’t mind the shouty pop up ‘new update’ box but a lot of folk did and with this new change it’s pretty much silent.
What will happen after you’ve installed version 10.5 is the new version will be downloaded in the background and a small notification will appear telling you the update is ready but you can install it whenever you want. Similar to how browsers update.
A lot of folks will enjoy this change.
So that’s it for a bumper issue of new features!
Which one excites you the most? Which one will make you more productive?
Enjoy your weekend.
Best wishes,
Jon
The new insert-note feature is addicting. I didn't realize how useful this would be to me. Bravo, Evernote, for this one.
