AMA 56: Why can I only export 100 notes at a time from Evernote?
A huge thank you to all paid subscribers and many thanks also to those who bought me a coffee. Taming the Trunk is 100% reader supported, no ads or commission links and your support is really appreciated.
This week on Ask Me Anything about Evernote we have a question from Arthur.
If you have a question you’d love an answer to then leave it in the comments below and I’ll add it to the list.
Arthur asks
Why can I only export 100 notes at a time from Evernote?
Don’t believe everything you read on socials!
Over the last couple of years I’ve seen a lot of posts on social media saying you can’t export more than 100 notes at a time from Evernote and its not true.
The 100 note number is related to bulk actions where you multi-select notes in the note list and you can add tags, move them to another notebook, turn them into a PDF. This limit is 100.
If you want to export your notes, you can right-click on a notebook and select Export notebook and you can export them all.
You get a bunch of options appear in the pop up box.
Choose from Evernotes own ENEX format which is ideal as a backup or select single or multiple HTML pages. All the attachments arrive with either format.
You can split the exported file into chunks if it’s really big and also select the different attributes that appear in each exported note. Things like tags, tasks and reminders.
Once you select Export you’ll have a file on your Mac or PC with all the exported notes.
A couple of caveats.
You can only export like this on the Mac and PC apps. Not mobile or web.
You can only export each notebook one at a time, which to be honest is how I tend to make backups.
There used to be a function many years ago in old Evernote where you could export all notes but they weren’t attached to any notebook, just all the notes. Notebook organisation is really important, so I never really used this option and went notebook by notebook.
I hope that helps.
Have a great rest of the week
All the best
Jon
