AMA 57: Is it possible to have the Evernote AI Assistant start with my notes and search the web to expand or is it limited to Notes OR Web?
A huge thank you to all paid subscribers and many thanks also to those who bought me a coffee. Taming the Trunk is 100% reader supported, no ads or commission links and your support is really appreciated.
This week on Ask Me Anything about Evernote we have a question from Shawn.
If you have a question you’d love an answer to then leave it in the comments below and I’ll add it to the list.
Shawn asks
Is it possible to have the AI Assistant start with my notes and search the web to expand or is it limited to Notes OR Web?
Great questions and links up with last Friday’s article about the new AI Assistant.
The new AI Assistant (which is rolling out for enterprise and Advanced plans in beta) lets you ask questions and find information from your notes, its own knowledge and the web.
The way it works by default is to search just your notes.
You can also specify which note, notebook or tagged notes to look at.
If the AI can’t find the answer in your notes, then it will use its own knowledge, which we think is ChatGPT 4.
If it still can’t find the answer, then it will go to the web and it lets you know when it does.
All this is by default.
But, there is also an option to search using the web.
This will direct your question to the web so it’s ideal for research, curating some information and then turning it into a note.
You can also direct it to a specific page. For example, you could say “Summarise this page” and then include the URL.
You can also say things like “Search the web and...”
Here’s a quick video demo on how notes/web/AI knowledge kind of comes together.
So to answer the question, yes you can search just your notes or the web or mix and match within a conversation. Just tell it what you want.
I hope that helps.
Have a great rest of the week
All the best
Jon
