I guess you could copy the (long) URL for the saved search in the location field from the web interface? Haven't tested completely, but should work – but opens up a new web window for every click, to not that useful (esp in the desktop app).

Example of an URL for an executed saved search ”updated:day-7" I had saved in my shortcuts, copied from the web interface:

https://www.evernote.com/client/web#/search?query=view%3ASE%1Eupdated%3Aday-7

That's an idea. I'd not thought of using bookmarks for saved searches. Might give that a go.

Switch to is very useful and use it a lot. A pity it doesn't work from everywhere (often try to use it from within a note before remembering it doesn't work from there etc). You can use title and tag searches within Switch To also which is handy

(I use an Autohotkey script to expand /t to title: and /g to tag: which speeds things up. Could use the excellent Fastkeys to do the same sort of thing and a lot easier to get up and running with it compared to AHK)

If you remap the key combinations for Switch To it will work anywhere. For some reason the editor takes over CTRL+Q.

I need to spend more time with AHK. Tried a few times but always end up uninstalling.

Thanks - tried that and it worked. Funny - I saw you mention the issue in the video but missed the fix somehow. re AHK - I'd suggest giving Fastkeys as try as can do many of the same things as AHK, and much easier to come to grips with. For instance, the text expansion to title: is very easily set up in FastKeys. There are some good videos on YouTube which show what it is capable of. I'm planning to shift as much as possible over from AHK to FastKeys as easier to create / maintain

Thanks. I'll take a look at FastKeys.

John, I had forgotted how great switch to is, I had stopped using it for a while, just doing searches back to Command J (Mac). Also the Saved Search into shortcuts will save me lots of time. good question from William. thank you

Wow! I've used Evernote for years and I've never used Switch To before - it's brilliant.

On the topic of saved searches, is there any way to edit a saved search. If I right-click on a saved search in my Shortcuts, I can chose Edit Saved Search, but that only lets me rename it, not amend the search criteria. Am I missing something really obvious?

You can't properly edit but you can delete the saved search and then save another one. If you click on the shortcut to run the search the 3 dots menu at the top of the note list should have edit and delete in there. You can edit the name of the search or delete it.

Thanks! At least I haven't missed anything obvious. Bit of pain though when you set up a search and then maybe need to change the search criteria slightly (such as including/excluding one additional tag) that you have to start from scratch.

A work around is to click on the 'old' saved search, which not only executes the search but puts the criteria into the search box. Edit those criteria and execute the revised search. Then click on Save Search, giving it a slightly different name since Evernote won't override an existing search. You can then delete the 'old' search. (If you really prefer the original name, you can now edit the new saved search's name back to the old one.) Not perfect, but often faster and less error-prone than trying to regenerate a complex search from scratch.

As my comments today suggest, I tend to think in outline form. It thus ' bothers' me that my Headings and Tasks can't be part of an outline structure, but are always hard to the left margin and can't be indented. It would also be nice if you could then choose to have all text align with the margins of indented headings rather than having to do so manually. If you think others would also want these abilities, I would hope you'd pass these ideas on too.

Though it wouldn't help my particular needs much, I'm sure many Evernote systems would benefit from being able to embed links in a note not just to a particular "Saved Search" but to a Notebook or a Tag.

Yeah. Agree with tag links. Will mention it.

Thank you for answering my Saved Searches in a Note question this week! When you started off with Debby's question about "Switch to" I immediately thought "Ah! He's going to then suggest "Switch To" as a workaround for my needs. And indeed, it strikes me right now as the best work-around since Switch To quickly narrows down to a few clickable options as you type in the first letter or two while searching for a saved search doesn't. But not as quick as simply clicking on a Saved Search in a Note, so thank you for passing on the suggestion to Bending Spoons!

Just heard back and saved search and tag linking in notes is on the list... no idea when but its on a list so 🤞

Also keyboard shortcuts CTRL 1 - 9 will open a shortcut instantly if it helps. If the saved search is in the shortcut list you could possibly use that?

Thank you again. I anticipate using hundreds of saved searches if I can embed them in notes. Just about every note is part of a larger topic, which is part of an even larger topic, etc. I just want to be able to quickly get to all notes relating to those larger topics. Allowing Shortcuts (or even Saved Searches) to get long undermines its purpose in my experience. Plus, as another commenter noted, additions to Shortcuts make it take longer to get to other items in the side bar.

Agree. You don't want a load of shortcuts. I'll post the feedback.

Speaking of shortcuts: one thing that drives me bonkers in the sidebar, is that the Shortcuts is above Notes. As Shortcuts expands when clicked (which Notes doesn’t), it pushes the Notes menu item ”off screen” for me (have a lot of saved searches, could do with a tidy-up perhaps).

Would be more user friendly if Notes was above Shortcuts, as Notes doesn't expand.

Was hoping that they the new settings for the sidebar would allow me to change the order of the sidebar items, but for now we can only decide whether to show or hide items in the sidebar.

I always use alt+ctrl+2 (Windows) for Notes which avoids the problem. I also only make a saved search a shortcut if it is absolutel critical, otherwise it only sits in the saved search list.

I'd not thought of using shortcuts. CTRL 1 - 9 will open shortcuts which could be useful.

I think moving sections around is planned. A lot of folk asking for it.

I would love saved searches in a note. At the moment I write the search as advanced search syntax in a code block in the note. I then have an AutoHotKey script that copies the the text into the search box. Works really well for me. It wouldn't be a huge amount of work to copy the text manually without using AHK.

I need to find the time to play more with AHK. I've installed, played and uninstalled a few times but would find it useful. I think the lack of a GUI and having to fuss puts me off a little.

Finally, since I'm on such a tear right now, do others experience search results with an 'extra' non-applicable note (usually a note I've worked on recently) listed at the bottom of the results? It's not a big deal, but it's a glitch I'm surprised hasn't been corrected since it appeared many months ago. Reinstallations of the software don't cure it, so I doubt it's just me.

Yes. Spotted this myself and I think its a display bug. The search is correct but there's a bug in how its displayed in the note list. A few other note list glitches as well. Hopefully it will be fixed.
