AI Prompts just landed in Evernote and they are a genuine time saver, a little library of reusable instructions that turns the AI Assistant into a workflow machine.
I've created a Prompt notebook in an AI stack. I use Claude and Gemini as well as Evernote's AI Assistant and the new Prompt functionality seems more fussy than I need and the layout of the Create a New Prompt screen and the screen that shows up when I recall a prompt I created are more involved than what I need. I may just create my own prompt template with only the essentials and use it instead of the new tool. I'm also starting to play with keeping prompts I use a lot in Text Expander so I can type just a few characters to insert a refined prompt that I use often.
I like the idea of using Text Expander. I use it a lot myself and it would be perfect for prompts. Its the one thing ChatGPT and Codex miss, some sort of prompt library.
I haven't started to use Text Expander yet; I'll probalby limit it to the prompts I use the most. Also, in case you're interested, here is the basic prompt template I am using inside Evernote instead of the one they came up with:
I've found Text Expander to be really useful. For some weird reason I cannot for the life of me hit the ' key on my keyboard, I always hit ;... so I write don;t and can;t all the time! Text Expander auto corrects this for me instantly.
Thanks for this article, Jon. It prompted me to try and create a custom prompt that would be able to convert my long structured notes into markdown, suitable for use in various other Ai workflow tools that are quickly becoming part of my business life these days. Unfortunately though, my custom prompting attempt failed with Evernote's AI openly admitting that it was giving me "middle truncated" results. I appreciated the honesty :) ... and I will continue to anxiously await the arrival of Evernote's MCP.
