A huge thank you to all paid subscribers and many thanks also to those who bought me a coffee. Taming the Trunk is 100% reader supported, no ads or commission links and your support is really appreciated.
What do you think about their new prices? I've been using Evernote since 2011 and needless to say that Starter plan is not enough for me. But they're charging $250 for the Advanced one. Personally — screw them! I'm switching to Obsidian.
It totally depends on what folks use it for. For those who use it the same as they did back in 2008/9/10 for file/note storage and sync its expensive. For those who use it for more than that its still expensive but the value is there. I personally use it to record and transcribe all my meetings each week. I also run all three areas of my work life from it. All my tasks, project notes, client info is all recorded and setup. The AI is useful for me as a research tool. I can easily find information and expand on notes instead of Googling all the time. There's a lot of folk who started using Evernote over 15 years ago who are leaving but there's a bunch of others who are joining. Its all about the value you get from it.
Just check the storage limits with Obsidian. If you pick their sync it can get up to $200 depending on how many GBs you need.
Thank you, Jon, for your prompt response. Sync can be done through Google Drive. But yeah, I use Transcribe functionality too. Haven't figured out how to replace it yet but it is not "mission-critical" for me.
I have an issue: when I open search with Ctrl+K, the cursor no longer focuses in the search box. I have to click it manually before I can start typing. This began after the top tabs were implemented. Do you know if this will be fixed or if there’s a workaround?
I've heard a couple of folk mention losing focus in various places since the tabs have come out. I've just tested the shortcut for search on my Mac and I get focus in the search box but I am on version 11.12.0 which is a nightly version. This means its either fixed or it doesn't affect Macs. I'm not back to my Win machine until after the weekend but will check it there.
Thanks for explaining the floating ToC. I might not have noticed the horizontal lines on the right ;) Great enhancement.
I've found myself using it a lot. One of those little things that make a difference.

Granola is meant to be good for transcribing but, another subsciption!
Hi Jon,
Great content — thanks.
