AMA 58: When is version 11 of Evernote coming out and will the app totally change like it did for version 10?
A huge thank you to all paid subscribers and many thanks also to those who bought me a coffee. Taming the Trunk is 100% reader supported, no ads or commission links and your support is really appreciated.
This week on Ask Me Anything about Evernote we have a question from Lee.
If you have a question you’d love an answer to then leave it in the comments below and I’ll add it to the list.
Lee asks
When is version 11 coming out and will the app totally change like it did for version 10?
Excellent question. The bump from version 6.something to version 10 was huge!
Back in 2020, before Bending Spoons took over Evernote version 10 was launched and it was a pretty big change to the app. Some of the functionality didn’t arrive on release and a few features that weren’t that popular were removed, like presentation mode.
Version 10 of the app also worked a little differently from version 6.something so workflow changes and muscle memory had to be built up again.
This is not happening with version 11.
There’s not going to be any workflow changes or waking up to find the sidebar on the right and everything a different colour. The app is pretty much staying the same.
There’s recently been a subtle user interface refresh with new icons, the Inter font is now used all over the app and we have some rounded corners in various places.
I really like the new stack icon.
We’ve also seen the Insert menu redesigned with a search box and favourites plus the slash (/) menu has also been updated.
In my opinion, the app is looking very smart.
Version 11 is pretty much a feature led update with the main new features being:
AI Meeting Notes
AI Assistant
Semantic Search
It might only look like three features, but they are huge and I’ve already done a deep dive on AI Meeting Notes and the AI Assistant. An article about semantic search is coming soon.
Right now, these features are rolling out to folks on the Advanced and Enterprise plan and you’ll get to try them within version 10 of the app.
Which brings me to release dates for version 11.
I don’t know is the answer but, in a recent official video from the Evernote product lead, Federico, he said they were looking at releasing the app by the end of the year, so not too long to wait.
Make sure you check out this Friday’s main article as I’ll be looking at semantic search in a lot of detail.
Have a great rest of the week
All the best
Jon
